Climate change impacts of introducing carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) in waste incineration

چکیده

Amending municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) with carbon capture and utilisation (CCU) can simultaneously lower the climate change impacts of supply for a range uses. However, life cycle assessment (LCA) shows that technology choices benefits CCU applied to MSWI depend on energy system in which operates throughout its lifetime, markets products. Carbon reduces up 50% recovery MSWI. We assessed different scenarios, ranging from fossil- non-fossil based. Direct captured CO2 is beneficial only local basis when substituting fossil-based (?700 kg CO2-eq/tonne waste), similar storage. Hydrogenation purpose producing feedstock chemicals or fuels such as methane, methanol, dimethyl ether (DME) formic acid provides much higher (?2000 but non-fossil-based systems, due dramatically high consumption electricity (more than 6000 kWh/tonne waste). Use more use fuels, solutions focusing methanol DME are most promising technologies. Although built scarce early-development data, analysis highlights current crucial issues, at both technological levels, future introduction

Climate change and capture fisheries: potential impacts, adaptation and mitigation

Climate change is predicted to have a range of direct and indirect impacts on marine and freshwater capture fisheries, with implications for fisheries-dependent economies, coastal communities and fisherfolk. This technical paper reviews these predicted impacts, and introduces and applies the concepts of vulnerability, adaptation and adaptive capacity. Capture fisheries are largely driven by fos...

Climate Change, Climate Modes, and Climate Impacts

■ Abstract Variability of the atmospheric and oceanic circulations in the earth system gives rise to an array of naturally occurring dynamical modes. Instead of being spatially independent or spatially uniform, climate variability in different parts of the globe is orchestrated by one or a combination of several climate modes, and global changes take place with a distinctive spatial pattern res...

Waste Incineration:

This study examines the development of Energy from Waste incineration within the waste strategies of local authorities in England. With the development of Waste Strategy 2000 for England, produced by DEFRA, (then DETR) and the inclusion of statutory recovery targets for the recovery of energy from waste, along with the implementation of the Landfill Directive (99/31/EC), there created a need fo...

Waste Management and Climate Change

Waste management has at least Ž ve types of impacts on climate change, attributable to: (1) landŽ ll methane emissions; (2) reduction in industrial energy use and emissions due to recycling and waste reduction; (3) energy recovery from waste; (4) carbon sequestration in forests due to decreased demand for virgin paper; and (5) energy used in long-distance transport of waste: A recent USEPA stud...
